Twenty-Second Sunday after Penticost
October 13, 2008

Welcome! We thank God for bringing you here this morning
We pray that you hear the good news that through Jesus Christ
you have been reconciled to God!

Prelude                                                                                                                                    Priscilla Silver

Call to Worship
P: May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
C: May the Lord rejoice in his works.

P: O Lord, how manifold are your works.
C: In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

P: You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate,
C: That we may bring forth food from the earth and wine to gladden our hearts.

P: May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
C: May the Lord rejoice in his works.

Confession and Absolution                                                   P: Pastor C: Congregation
P: The Apostle Paul says that all of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Therefore, let us confess our sins to God knowing that we have been justified by his grace.

C: Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

P: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore declare to you the forgiveness of all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. You are forgiven!

C: Amen.

Apostolic Greeting, Prayer of the Day, & Sharing of the Peace
P: Almighty God, Your mercies are new every morning and You graciously provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your goodness, give thanks for Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.

P: The peace of the Lord be with you,
C: And also with you.

First Article of the Creed
P: I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. What does this mean?

C: I believe that God has created me and all that exists. He has given me and still preserves my body and soul with all their powers. He provides me with food and clothing, home and family, daily work, and all I need from day to day. God also protects me in time of danger and guards me from every evil. All this He does out of pure fatherly and divine goodness and mercy, though I do not deserve it. Therefore I surely ought to thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction

P:   You are free in Christ! Go in peace.
C:   Thanks be to God!
